Christian religion came to Croatia centuries ago. In the times of antique, Ploče area was populated by Illyrian tribes and a lot of their graveyards are found in Dalmatia. Ploče area is full of Christian churches that were built to honor the different saint’s patrons. Every village worshiped one saint and they often chose one day in a year to make it the day of that saint. A lot of these churches are now in old villages that are abandoned.
